Michelle Nicolle is celebrated as Australia’s finest female jazz singer. Winner of multiple awards, she has appeared at festivals all over Australia and the world, from Tokyo to Siberia. In addition to her regular weekly performances at Melbourne’s Brunswick Green, recent gigs have included featuring with Wynton Marsalis and the Jazz at the Lincoln Centre Orchestra in performances of Marsalis’s masterpiece All Rise with the Sydney and Melbourne Symphony Orchestras.

Michelle is admired for her ability to get right to the heart of a song, as well as being a brilliant in-the-moment improviser with a technique to match any instrumentalist. In the words of Kurt Elling, ‘Michelle is a singer born to charm, enlighten and seduce through music.’

Her recording career began in 1997 with Misterioso, for the ABC’s Jazztrack program. This, her tenth album, showcases Michelle’s genius as a composer as well as her magnificent voice. She describes it as ‘a milestone and also a happy surprise. My quartet of 25 years had a spot at the 2023 Melbourne International Jazz Festival; I knew we were being recorded for broadcast but wasn’t thinking of an album – hence the looseness and nakedness of the energy and playing.’

Michelle is joined by her long-time quartet of guitarist Geoff Hughes, bassist Tom Lee and drummer Ronny Ferella on this superb recording of a truly magical concert.
