Steve Earle has constructed a modern day bluegrass masterpiece. The Mountain is a flawless collection of exhilarating compositions. Earle's songwriting is as good as ever, and it perfectly complements the mccoury's instrumental skill. It begins with "Texas eagle" a rambling new bluegrass classic, "i'm still in love with you" features successful country singer Iris Dement. "Harlan Man" is a near metallic country rocker which proceeds the beautifully sentimental title track, a heartfelt celebration of old mining days. Another highlight is the intriguing war story of "Dixieland". This masterpiece closes with a beautiful ballad "Pilgrim", thus ending both Steve Earle and The Del Mccoury Band's best piece of work. This is an essential bluegrass collection.
